"G" and "H" Series Cage Mill Application
Grinding Corn and Soybean Meal for Animal Feed Supplement
Stedman G and H Series Cage Mills provide many advantages over
hammer mills when grinding product for animal feed supplement. One Stedman Cage Mill can replace 4 to 6 hammer mills, reducing electrical cost and floor space requirement.
They provide a fine, uniform grind with no close clearances to maintain. Product is more consistent. Cage Mills also provide more positive product control and generate fewer fines than hammer mills. Heat build-up is eliminated, ensuring no discoloration of material and allowing for lower grinding temperatures.
Designed with an open discharge area, the Cage Mills have no screens or grates to plug or break. Maintenance is fast and easy. The Cage Mills can be completely open and ready for inspection in about 5 minutes. A complete change out of cage and wear components can be done in less than an hour, reducing maintenance costs and downtime. And there are no screens to replace or unplug.
Field Proven*
- Crush whole kernel corn to a nominal minus 8 mesh
- Reduce corn fiber for animal feed supplement to the right fineness to produce a strong durable pellet that minimizes breakage during shipment
- Wet mills hulls to release bound starch. Average water content 70% to 75%, sulfur dioxide content 3% to 5% with a caustic Ph of 3.5% to 4%. (For this application 316 and 304L stainless steel is used.)
- Remove germ from high moisture content corn---35% to 40% moisture content
- Process corn fiber material to 95% to 98% to minus 4 mesh with 55 to 60% minus 16 mesh.
- Grind soybean meal to minus 8 x 80 mesh yield.
*4-row Cage Mills were used in the above examples. Final product was determined by the RPM of the cages.
